If you want to learn to recognize some of the genera and species of the large family of sunflowers, the Asteraceae or Composite family. You will learn all about the inflorescences and flowers including ray flowers and disc flowers, phyllaries, pappus, achenes and more. The workshop will include fieldtrips, where you can see the plants in their natural environment as well as specimens in a lab setting. Additional info on plant identification will be presented thru power-point presentations and printed handouts. There will also be specimens displayed on the TV screen. You are encouraged to photograph, take notes, ask questions, and take specimens with you. During the three day workshop, you will be exposed to more than 100 species of Composites. After hours: butterflies, hummingbird moths, moth mercury vapor black lights, night sky, spider eyes, etc.
